STEP 2: DIAGNOSIS & PAIN RELIEF
When you arrive, Dr. Hulsey will conduct a thorough exam, including any necessary digital X-rays, to assess the full extent of the problem. His first priority is to get you out of pain. He will address immediate discomfort and explain exactly what is happening with your tooth or oral tissues so you have a clear picture of the situation before any treatment begins.
STEP 3: TREATMENT & FOLLOW-UP PLAN
Once the emergency is stabilized, Dr. Hulsey will outline your treatment options and next steps. Some emergencies can be fully resolved in a single visit; others may require follow-up care. Either way, you will leave with a clear plan, any necessary prescriptions, and aftercare instructions to keep you comfortable and on the path to full recovery.
MANAGING A DENTAL EMERGENCY BEFORE YOUR APPOINTMENT
While waiting to be seen, there are steps you can take to protect the affected tooth and manage discomfort. For a knocked-out tooth, handle it only by the crown, not the root, and if possible, gently rinse it and place it back in the socket or store it in milk until you arrive. For severe pain, over-the-counter pain relievers taken as directed can help manage discomfort temporarily.
For a broken or lost crown, avoid chewing on that side of your mouth and cover any sharp edges with dental wax if available. For swelling, a cold compress applied to the outside of the face can help reduce inflammation. In all cases, calling our office before attempting to self-treat is the best first step; our team can give you specific guidance based on your situation.
